Gong Xi Gong Xi!

This is the first time I bake cookies for Chinese New Year, and, boy, I had so much fun! Excuse me while I brag.

I have to admit that I do a fair bit of “research” before actually baking them - I look for the easiest recipes! Heh. Honestly, being a novice in baking, I prefer not to set a high standard for myself. Like the cornflake cups, it’s so easy that any six-year-old can make. And the “huat kueh” (Chinese steam cake) is from a pre-mixed pack. The pineapple tarts may look complicated, but erm, the pineapple jam is store-bought.

Happy Lunar New Year to all of you! May the year of rat brings you happiness, peace and harmony!

舍不得你长大

It’s scary how time zips you by when you are least aware. My little Jayden is no longer little; he is too heavy to be carried now and is losing his baby fats so fast. How long more can I hug, kiss and hold his hand without him shrinking back and tell me, “mum, I’m a big boy now” ?

When in Stress …

… bake! Works for me everytime!

Chocolate and Nut Cookies

Photo’s presentation stolen from the recipe. Jolyne said I had no creativity. Bah.

I find the aroma of freshly baked cookies filling the kitchen comforting. This is one reason why baking always helps me de-stress.

Recipe here.

Work! Argh

Thought I better write something before I slip into hibernation again. It has been a bad work week. I am so crammed that I can hardly breathe. It doesn’t help the workload is going to increase exponentially till end of the year. Sigh. Why oh why is everyone so fond of choosing the first day of the year to roll-out an IT project? It should be banned! I haven’t been able to enjoy the year-end holidays since God-knows-when. It sucks that everyone is at one point or another taking a break in November or December, but I am stuck at work. I can only console myself that I am saving good money in not paying the premium to travel in the peak period.

Oh who am I kidding? I want my holidays! Sob.

Ok, I shan’t talk about work anymore. End of whine.

A Passion for Chocolate

Chocolate fondant pudding.

Recipe here, from “A Passion for Pudding by Phil Vickery

This isn’t totally successful - the chocolate in the middle is supposed to be runny and oozes out when you spoon it open. Click the recipe link above and you’ll know what I mean. Mine looks nothing like the picture, in fact, it looks disastrous. Nevertheless, it tastes totally heavenly! Never mind the calories, I’m baking it again soon! Oh, and I love love love this book that I borrowed from the library and I’m going to buy my own copy!
